Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules gets amended to include Accessibility Standards for Health Care

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment [Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities(Divyangjan)] has issued the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Amendment) Rules, 2023 (“Amendment Rule”)  to amend the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017, ( “Principal Rule”). This is effective immediately.

The Amendment Rule inserts clause (g) in sub-rule (1), after clause (f) in the Principal Rule which prescribes for the Accessibility Standards for Health Care as specified in the notification of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare vide number T.21017/20/2021-NCD.I (NPPCD) dated 4th May, 2023. The Accessibility Standards for HealthCare prescribes for compliance by Government and private hospitals, and other health care institutions and centres.
