The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (“Board”) has, by a circular dated 11th September, 2020 introduced new categorizations and revised existing categorization of industries as per pollution potential, basis recommendations of the Categorization Committee (“Committee”).
- The Board has newly introduced the following category of industries which was earlier not considered under the list of 187 category of industries. The following units and it’s categorization are be considered at the time of issuing of consents.

2. In addition to this, as per Circular dated 17th March, 2017, “Cement godown / chemical godown / medical godown / fish stall” was categorized as “Green” but after receiving several complaints, the Board has decided to revise the category of cement godown based on the number of cement bags as mentioned below –

3.Similarly, as per Circular dated 9th July, 2019, “Gate and Grill (involving grinding, cutting, hammering but no painting work)” was categorized as “Green” but now post discussions with the Committee it has been decided that “welding activity” will also be added with the existing activities under Gate & Grill work.
