The Pollution Control Board, Himachal Pradesh (“Board”) has proposed to issue a final consolidated list of classification of the industrial sectors. Hence, in the light of such proposal, the Board has invited comments/ suggestions/ objections from interested persons.
Background-
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), in letters dated 7th March 2016, 30th April 2020 and 4th July 2020 have issued directions under Section 18(1) {b) of Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 to all the State Pollution Control Board’s (“SPCB”) & Pollution Control Committees (“PCC”) to adopt the categorization of industrial sectors and follow an uniform pattern for classification of industries under Red/ Green/ Orange/White category.
Hence, a committee was constituted by the SPCB which recommended, that:
There are 85 types of industrial (non-industrial) activities were proposed to be classified as Red category and 106 activities in Orange and 70 activities in Green and 136 activities in white category.
The industrial units now as per the revised classification under Red, Orange and Green categories are required to obtain consent under the provision of Water Act, 1974 and Air Act, 1981.
Note-The objections/suggestions/comments may be forwarded to the Board in writing within a period of 15 days to the Member Secretary, Phase-III, Below BCS, New Shimla or it can also be sent through e-mail to mshppcb@gmail.com and consenthpspcb@gmail.com.
