The Labour Department, Government of Tripura (“Department”) has re- iterated that no shopkeeper or employer is required to apply for registration of his shop or establishment under the Tripura Shops and Establishments Act, 1970 (“Act”). This is in view of the Tripura Shops and Establishments (Fifth Amendment) Act, 2021 (“Amendment Act”) which exempted shopkeepers and employers from obtaining registration certificate and renewal thereof.
Background:
- Section 16(1) and Section 16(6) of the Act dealt with registration of shop or establishment and renewal of the certificate of registration of his shop or establishment after the expiry of three years respectively, which applied to shopkeeper and employer.
- Vide the said Amendment Act, the State Government of Tripura had deleted Section 16 from the Act for the purpose of Ease of doing Business in the State.
