The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Gujarat, has with a notification dated 19th December, 2020 proposed the Draft Gujarat Legal Metrology (Enforcement) (Amendment) Rules, 2020 (“Draft Amendment”). The Draft Amendment is open to objections and suggestions which must be addressed to the Secretary to the Government of Gujarat, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Sachivalaya, Gandhinagar.
This draft is yet to be published in the official Gazette. The last date for submission of comments/ suggestions with regard to this will be 30 days from the publication in the Gujarat Government Gazette.

(4) Every license issued to a manufacturer, repairer, or dealer shall be valid for a minimum period of one calendar year and maybe renewed for a period of five years, by the Controller or such other officer as maybe authorized by him in this behalf on payment of per year fee as specified in Schedule IV. |

(4) Every license issued to a manufacturer, repairer, or dealer of weights and measures shall be valid upto sixty months and maybe automatically renewed for a period of sixty months on payment of such fee for a minimum period of one calendar year and maybe renewed for a period of five years, by the Controller or such other officer as maybe authorized by him in this behalf on payment of per year fee as specified in Schedule IV. Provided that an inspection maybe done, after the licence is automatically renewed, by the Controller or such other officer as maybe authorized by him in this behalf and violation found on inspection shall be liable for proceedings under Rule 12 of these rules.

The Draft Amendment proposes to increase the period of validity of the license issued to manufacturers, repairers and dealers from one calendar year to sixty months. The licence will also be renewed automatically for a period of sixty months on payment of prescribed fees.
The Draft Amendment also clarifies that the license being referred to is for manufacturer, repairer and dealer of weights and measures. A provision for inspection by the Controller or any officer on his behalf is proposed to be introduced. The inspection may be done after the automatic renewal of licence. |
