In a recent notification dated 24th July, 2018, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has proposed amendments to the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011 with a view to limit the use of metal contaminants, aflatoxin and mycotoxin on certain food articles.
Some of the articles of food in which the limits of use of metal contaminants, aflatoxin and mycotoxin have been indicated are as follows:
- Concentrated Soft Drinks
- Fruit and vegetable juice
- Rice
- Spices
- Cocoa powder
- Packaged drinking water
- Gelatin
- Caramel, etc.
FSSAI has invited the stakeholders to send their comments and suggestions in a prescribed format before 24th September, 2018.
