The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) on 13th March, 2018 has issued the Draft Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2018 (“Draft Amendment Regulations”) proposing to amend the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011 (“Principal Regulation”).
FSSAI has invited for comments/ suggestions/ inputs from stakeholders likely to be affected by the Draft Amendment Regulations. It further clarified that the objections/suggestions/inputs will be taken in consideration till 13th April 2018.
Objections can be sent by the stakeholders vide post to the Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, FDA Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Delhi- 110002 or on email at regulation@fssai.gov.in.
Key Highlights of the Draft Amendment Regulations
- Proposed changes in Parameters and Limits as to Rapeseed Oil/Mustard Oil under Regulation 6 of the Principal Regulation.
- A new clause 25 has been proposed to be added under sub-regulation 2.2.1 of the Principal Regulation relating to “Avocado Oil”.
- iii. A new clause 26 has been proposed to be added under sub-regulation 2.2.1 of the Principal Regulation relating to “Palm Stearin”.
- A new clause 27 has been proposed to be added under sub-regulation 2.2.1 of the Principal Regulation relating to “Palm Kernel Stearin”.
- Fatty Acid composition limits for vegetable oils and fats have been proposed to be defined by adding sub-regulation 2.2.7 to the Principal Regulation (Fatty Acid Composition).
