The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has, vide a notification issued on 19th January, 2018, permitted the use of fortification logo with stickers/ stamping on the existing labels for edible oil fortified with Vitamin A or Vitamin D till 30.06.2018, provided that such products satisfy all other requirements under the Food Safety and Standards (Fortification of Foods) Regulations, 2017.
Background:
FSSAI had operationalized the Draft Food Safety and Standards (Fortification of Food) Regulations, 2016 which was made effective from 16.10.2016. Industries involved in fortification of edible oil were exempted from the same with respect to label discrepancies. The time period for exemption on label discrepancies involved in fortification of vegetable oil with Vitamin A or Vitamin D was till 31.12.2017.
The present notification has further extended the same.
