The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has proposed the Food Safety and Standards (Import) Amendment Regulations, 2019 (“Draft Amendment”) by a notification dated 29th Janunary,2019.
FSSAI invites Objections and suggestions, if any, which should be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Food and Drug Administration Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Delhi – 110002, or can be sent through e-mail at regulation@fssai.gov.in within 1st march,2019.
Key Highlights
- Upon arrival of the food consignments at the port, the importer or Custom House Agent must file an Integrated Declaration Form as specified by the Customs and must pay non-refundable basic food import clearance fee as specified by Food Authority from time to time.
- Upon satisfactory scrutiny of the Form submitted, it was mandatory for the applicant to pay the fees as specified by the Food Authority for scrutiny of documents, visual inspection and drawing of sample, in pursuance to this Draft Amendment, after satisfactory scrutiny, the Authorized Officer will intimate the details of date and time of inspection to the Food Importer to facilitate the presence of the Importer or his Custom House Agent/authorized representative at the time and place of inspection.
- Under this Draft Amendment, there will no Inspection from time to time upon arrival of the consignment post scrutiny by the authority, thus the fee to be paid for each category of articles of food will no longer be needed.
- A new form 13 A Declaration regarding issue of provisional no objection certificate for imported pre-packaged retail food consignment has been added.
