FSSAI proposes to amend Food Safety and Standards (Fortification of Foods) Regulations, 2018; invites comments from the public within 8th February, 2021

In a Gazette Notification dated 10th December, 2020 the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has issued the draft of the Food Safety and Standards (Fortification of Foods) Amendment Regulations, 2020 (“Draft Regulations”) in order to further amend the Food Safety and Standards (Fortification of Foods) Regulations, 2018 (“Principal Regulations”) and has invited comments and suggestions from the public within 8th February, 2021.

Objections or suggestions, if any, may be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Food and Drug Administration Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Dlehi-110002, or may be sent at regulation@fssai.gov.in:

The Draft Regulations propose to insert the following provisions in Regulation 4 which deals with “Compliance with Standards on Micronutrient Content in Fortified Foods”

1. The packaged refined edible vegetable oil weighing not more than 15 kilograms must be fortified with Vitamin A and Vitamin D and must comply with the level specified in clause (2) of Schedule –I of the Principal Regulations.

2. The Packaged Toned, double toned, skimmed milk or standardized milk shall be fortified with Vitamin A and Vitamin D and shall comply with the level specified in clause (3) of Schedule –I of the Principal Regulations
