The Department of Power, West Bengal (Department), in a notification in the official gazette dated 4th February, 2020, has brought into effect the West Bengal Lifts, Escalators and Travelators Act, 2019 (effective since 4th February, 2020). Accordingly the West Bengal Lifts and Escalators Act, 1955 stands repealed.
As previously reported, the Law Department, Government of West Bengal (“State Government”), through a notification in the official gazette dated 10th January, 2020, had brought in the West Bengal Lifts, Escalators and Travelators Act, 2019 (“New Act”), repealing the old West Bengal Lifts and Escalators Act, 1955 (“Old Act”). The New Act is now notified.
Caveat : While the gazette notification is dated 4.2.2020, the copy of the same has been made available on the Department website recently.
