Haryana Government notifies applicability of Payment of Wages Act to shop and commercial establishments in Haryana; mandates payments to be credited to employees’ bank accounts, effective 25th December, 2018

This is a quick update to let you know that the Haryana Labour Department has notified the amendments to the implementation of the Payment of Wages Act, 1936 (“Act”) in the State of Haryana, as proposed by the Payment of Wages (Haryana Amendment) Bill, 2016.

As per the notified amendments:

(a)  ‘Establishments’ defined under Section 2(1)(viii) of the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958 is now covered within the meaning of the terms “industrial or other establishment” under the Act in its application in Haryana; and

(b)  All the employers of the industrial establishments covered under sub section (ii) of section 2 of the Act, in its application in Haryana, would have to pay wages to the persons employed by directly crediting the wages in their bank accounts

Please note that both the amendments have been effective since 25th December, 2018 i.e. the date of their publication in the Haryana Gazette, and were published on the website recently.
