The Haryana Legislative Department (“Department”) in a Notification dated 7th December 2020 has notified the Haryana Water Resources (Conservation, Regulation and Management) Authority Act, 2020 with a view to establish the Haryana Water Resources (Conservation, Regulation and Management) Authority (“Authority”) for conservation, management and regulation of water resources i.e. ground water and surface water within the State of Haryana thereby ensuring sustainable utilization and management.

- It has been provided that permissions for using water other than the permissions may be sought under the Haryana Canal and Drainage Act, 1974. Any entity or person, who intends to use water shall apply to the Authority, along with the prescribed fee for permissions for construction and installation of any infrastructure or contraption etc.
- Further, it may be noted that the Authority shall recommend to the Government, tariff for all uses of surface water and use and disposal of treated wastewater. The tariff shall be determined by the Authority and shall be based on the principles of economy, efficiency, equity and sustainability.
- Furthermore, the inhabitants of State shall adopt self-regulation, rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, re-cycling and re-use, prevention of water logging.
