Ministry of Consumer Affairs amends the Removal of Licensing Requirements, Stock Limits and Movement Restrictions on Specified Foodstuffs Order, 2016 ; exempts Onion from licensing needs up to further order

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (“Ministry”) through a Notification dated 28th November, 2019 has amended the Removal of Licensing Requirements, Stock Limits and Movement Restrictions on Specified Foodstuffs Order, 2016 by bringing out the Removal of Licensing Requirements, Stock Limits and Movement Restrictions on Specified Foodstuffs (Third Amendment) Order, 2019.

Previously through the Removal of Licensing Requirements, Stock Limits and Movement Restrictions on Specified Foodstuffs (Second Amendment) Order, 2019, as reported in the trail mail, the Ministry had exempted Onion, for a period up to the 30th November 2019 with following stock limits on traders for all the States and Union Territories – (i) Wholesale: 50 MT and (ii) Retailer: 10 MT for the aspect of those commodities which do not require licensing requirements, stock limits and movement restrictions on certain foodstuffs.

Through the present Notification, the exemption on Onion has been extended until further orders.
