The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (“NPPA”), by way of an order dated 23rd January, 2018 has fixed/revised the price of Metronidazole along with the dosage form, strength and unit.
The NPPA has clarified that all manufacturers of Metronidazole, selling the branded or generic or both the versions of Metronidazole at a price higher than the ceiling price (plus goods and services tax as applicable) so fixed and notified by the Government, have to revise the prices of all such formulations downward not exceeding the ceiling price specified in column (5) in the table plus goods and services tax as applicable, if any.
The NPPA has stated that all existing manufacturers of Metronidazole having MRP lower than the ceiling price specified in column (5) of the table plus goods and services tax as applicable, if any, can continue to maintain the existing MRP in accordance with paragraph 13 (2) of the DPCO, 2013.
