The Governor of Punjab (“Government”), has promulgated the Factories (Punjab Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 (“Ordinance”) to amend the Factories Act, 1948 (“Principal Act”), in its application to the State of Punjab.
The Ordinance is effective 24.09.2020.

(ii) whereon twenty or more workers are working, or were working on any day of the preceding twelve months, and in any part of which a manufacturing process is being carried on without the aid of power, or is ordinarily so carried on,— but does not include a mine subject to the operation of the Mines Act, 1952 or a mobile unit belonging to the armed forces of the Union, railway running shed or a hotel), restaurant or eating place

The Government has increased threshold limit for applicability of the Factories Act, 1948 in the following manner-
i. for premises wherein manufacturing process is being carried on with the help of power, the threshold has been increased to twenty workers. The earlier threshold was 10 workers.
ii. for premises wherein manufacturing process is being carried on without the help of power, the threshold has been increased to forty workers. The earlier threshold was 20 workers. |
