Amendments underway to the West Bengal Labour Welfare Act, 1974; contributions to be made electronically through a designated Portal of the Board

The Labour Department, Government of West Bengal in a Notification dated 1st December, 2020 has proposed amendments to the West Bengal Labour Welfare Act, 1974 (“Act”) and has invited suggestions / feedback from stakeholders on the same.

The proposed amendments are as follows –

(6) An employer shall pay the employer’s and employee’s contribution to the Board by cheque or money order or in cash and shall bear the expenses of remitting to the Board such contributions.

(6) An employer shall pay the employer’s and employee’s contribution to the Board electronically through the designated “Portal” created and maintained by the Board and shall bear the expenses, if any, of remitting to the Board such contributions.

……..

As per the proposed amendment, an employer would be required to make the contributions to the Board electronically through a designated Portal of the Board as opposed to the earlier way of cheque or money order or cash.
