Chandigarh Govt. decides to lift ban from certain plastics and mark them under Extended Producer Responsibility

The Department of Environment, Chandigarh has, through a Notification dated 1st July 2020, decided to keep the following items with serial Numbers 16 to 18 of the Notification dated 27th September 2019 under Extended Producer Responsibility (“EPR”) instead of the ban list :

Sr.No.16: Plastic refill pouch having quantity less than S00 ml

Sr.No.17: Straws attached with tetra packs

Sr.No. 18: Multi-layered packaging used for food/snacks packing

The EPR is a policy approach under which producers are given a significant responsibility (financial and/or physical) for the treatment or disposal of post-consumer products. Thus, now, the producers themselves shall be responsible for ensuring that the above items are disposed of properly.
