DM, Puducherry issues prohibitory Order under Section 144 of CrPC restricting movement of people for non-essential activities between 10 pm and 5 am; effective from 3rd July, 2020

The District Magistrate of Puducherry (“DM”) has issued prohibitory Order under Section 144 of the CrPC in consonance with the Unlock 2.0 Order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (“MHA Order dated 29th June, 2020”), to prohibit the movement of individuals for non-essential activities between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am.

In order to enforce the prohibition on movement, the following restrictions in Puducherry region (except Mahe and Yanam) have been enforced:

1. All shops, establishments (including petrol pumps, Restaurants) shall function from 6.00 am to 8.00 pm only;

2. The liquor shops shall open as per the license condition and shall close by 8.00 pm;

3. Milk Booths shall operate upto 10:00 pm;

4. The whole sale and retail medical shops / pharmacy are permitted to be open without any restriction;

These restrictions will become effective from 3rd July, 2020 i.e. today and remain in force till further orders.

Penalty:
Any violation of the above instructions will attract penalties under the relevant provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Epidemic Act, 1897.

Please note:
The present order will not apply to agencies / officials of the Government involved in the enforcement of Law and Order, duty relating to containment of corona virus and the maintenance of essential services.
