EPFO directs all PF Commissioners to settle death claims in events of industrial accidents etc. on priority basis

In a letter dated 17th July, 2020 addressed to all Additional Central Provident Fund Commissioners and Regional Provident Fund Commissioners (“RPFC”), the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (“EPFO”) has directed them to settle death claims on priority basis in events of industrial accidents etc.

The Letter goes on to state that:

  • In case of any incidents of industrial accidents which result in death of employees of an industrial establishment, the concerned RPFC (in-charge of RO) will immediately take initiative to settle death claims of the concerned members.
  • EPFO directs all PF Commissioners to settle death claims in events of industrial accidents etc. on priority basis The concerned RPFC after learning about the incident should depute an EO to get complete details of the incident, death cases etc. from the concerned establishment. Also, the EO must ensure that due guidance is provided to the family members / legal beneficiaries of the deceased members for immediate filing of claims under the provisions of the schemes under Employees’ Provident Fund & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952.
  • A complete action report of the incident should be sent to the Head Office through concerned ACC (Zones) within 2 days of any such industrial incident.
