EPFO revises instructions regarding mandatory online submission of claims

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (“EPFO”) has, through a circular dated 13th April, 2018, revised its instructions relating to mandatory online submission of claims for settlement in certain cases (please refer to the trail mail).

The EPFO has informed that offline claims will also be accepted in all cases.

The EPFO also informed that

  1. in view to step up security, the claims already received online from claimants shall be sent online to employers for further verification, only after which the claim will be settled; and
  2. such employers are required to return the claims to the EPFO office, within 3 days, either accepting or rejecting them.

Background:

In relation to the instructions in the trail mail, the EPFO had received representations regarding problems faced by members/claimants (including International Workers) in filing such online claims. Hence, in view of such grievances, the EPFO decided to revise its instructions.
