ESIC brings in online system generating insurance number for newly appointed employees; failure to comply within 10 days will lead to serious consequences

In a Notification dated 21st November 2019, the Employees State Insurance Corporation (“ESIC”)” has laid down the system of online registration for filing of monthly contribution by the employers.

Additionally, it is now the duty of the employer to register their newly appointed employees within 10 days of their appointment and get their Insurance Number generated online.

In the event the employer fails to register within 10 days, the Insurance Number of the newly appointed employee will not be generated.  In such a situation, the employer has to take an approval from the concerned Regional Office/Sub Regional Office by furnishing supporting documents which can be supplied through e-mail or physically.

In case of large gaps and multiple instances of failure, action under the Employee State Insurance Act, 1948 may be initiated.

Background:

ESIC had received many complaints of delayed registration of newly appointed employees and delayed filing of contribution / supplementary contribution by the employers. In order to overcome this problem, ESIC has come up with this system of online registration of an employee and filing of monthly contribution.
