FSSAI invites comments for review of provisions relating to mandatory certification of BIS on food products

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) by way of a notice, uploaded on the FSSAI website on 16th January, 2018, has invited comments from all stakeholders regarding mandatory certification of BIS as per the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (“Act”).

FSSAI is in the process of reviewing the provisions of the Regulations notified under the Act relating to the mandatory certification of BIS, to assess whether such provisions are serving any benefit to the consumers and industry and in furtherance to the same have invited comments from the stakeholders within three weeksfrom the date of uploading on FSSAI website i.e. 16th January, 2018. The comments have to be sent to advisor@fssai.gov.in or addressed to Shri Kumar Anil, Advisor (Standards) Food Safety and Standards Authority of India , FDA Bhawan, New Delhi-110002.

Note:

Some of the food products which are required to be sold having a mandatory BIS certification are as follows:

  1. Infant Milk Food
  2. Infant formula
  3. Skimmed milk powder
  4. Packaged drinking water
  5. Mineral water
