FSSAI operationalizes Draft FSS (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2019, with immediate effect; directs FBOs dealing with Coconut Oil to comply with revised refractive index.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”), through a direction dated 4th September 2019, operationalized the Draft Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2019 (“Draft Amendment”) with immediate effect.

The Draft Amendment deals with the revision of the limits of the parameter refractive index in the food standard for coconut oil.

In order to address the issue of the food business operators to comply with the present standard of coconut oil for the said parameter and to harmonize with the international standards-Codex, the Draft Amendment has been operationalized.
