In a recent notification dated 14th June, 2018, the Central Government in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (“Bureau”) has notified the following precious metal articles to be marked with Hallmark:
- Gold jewellery and gold artefacts
- Silver jewellery and silver artefacts
Now, these precious metals can be sold through retail outlets certified by the Bureau after they satisfy the following;
- They conform with the relevant standards prescribed by testing and marking Centre recognized by the Bureau; and
- They bear the ‘Hallmark’ mark.
