Health Ministry prohibits the import, manufacture and sale of Chloramphenicol and Nitrofurans in drug formulations for use in food-producing animal rearing systems

The Health Ministry has issued an immediate prohibition on the import, manufacture, sale and distribution of all drug formulations containing Chloramphenicol or Nitrofurans intended for use in any food-producing animal rearing system.

This prohibition is pursuant to recommendations by the Drugs Technical Advisory Board, which determined that the specified drugs pose significant health risks health risks in food-producing animals, particularly considering safer alternative treatments currently available. The prohibition takes effect immediately.
