Maharashtra Government too goes ahead and exempts Shops and Establishments from the requirement to renew their registration certificates under S&E Act

The Industry, Energy and Labour Department, Maharashtra (“Department”), in a Government Resolution dated 2nd April, 2019, has gone ahead and eliminated the existing requirement of renewal of registration certificate under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishment Employment and Service Regulation Act, 2017 (“Act”).

We have unofficially confirmed with the Department that, though the Government Resolution is dated 2nd March, 2019, it is effective 3rd May, 2019, as indicated in the digital signature.

As per Section 6 of the Act, a registration certificate granted under the Act is valid till a maximum period of 10 years. Prior to this Government Resolution, an online application for renewal of the registration certificate was supposed to be made not less than thirty days before the date of expiry of the registration certificate which has, going forward, been done away with.

*Please note that we have identified this Government Resolution only recently in the portal.

Other States which have done away with the renewal requirement till date:

Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, West Bengal, Karnataka and Punjab.
