The Ministry of Home Affairs with a Public Notice dated 4th November, 2019 has proposed amendments to the Arms Act, 1959 (“Act”).
The Public Notice proposes to amend Section 3 of the Act such that no person shall acquire, have in his possession or carry, at any time, more than one firearm. Previously the Act provided for acquiring, possessing or carrying up to 3 firearms at any time.
To accommodate this change any person possessing more than one firearm at the time of the amendment can deposit the remaining firearms within one year to the nearest police station or licensed dealer.
