The Ministry of Labour and Employment (“Ministry”), through a notification dated 28th August, 2020 has declared the services of the industry engaged in Food Stuffs as a Public Utility Service for a further period of six months, effective from 28th August, 2020.
Background
Central Government had earlier declared the said industry to be public utility service for the purposes of the Act for a period of six months from 17th February, 2020. In addition to this, the Government had initially declared the industry as public utility service on 9th July 2019 for a period of six months.
Now, being of the opinion that public interest requires the extension of the public utility service status to the said industry for a further period of six months, the Government has issued this notification.
