The Ministry of Labour and Employment (“Ministry”), through a notification dated 28^th August, 2020 has declared the services of the industry engaged in Food Stuffs as a Public Utility Service for a further period of six months, effective from 28^th August, 2020.

Background

Central Government had earlier declared the said industry to be public utility service for the purposes of the Act for a period of six months from 17^th February, 2020. In addition to this, the Government had initially declared the industry as public utility service on 9^th July 2019 for a period of six months.

Now, being of the opinion that public interest requires the extension of the public utility service status to the said industry for a further period of six months, the Government has issued this notification.
