Oxytocin reference standards will now be allowed to be imported exclusively for the purpose of test and analysis; says Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

In a Notification dated 27th January, 2020 the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (“Ministry’) has informed that only Oxytocin reference standards will now be allowed to be imported exclusively for the purpose of test and analysis.

Background:

Considering the harmful effects of Oxytocin and its formulation in any name or manner the Central Government had prohibited the import of the said drug in public interest by issuing a Notification dated 24th April, 2018.

Subsequent to the abovementioned Notification, the Central Government received representations from various stakeholders to allow import of Oxytocin reference standards for the purpose of examination, test or analysis.

On being satisfied that import of Oxytocin reference standards is necessary exclusively for the purpose of examination, test or analysis before carrying out commercial manufacturing of the said drug, the Central Government has issued the present Notification.
