The Chhattisgarh Government has published draft amendments to Chhattisgarh Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2021. The proposed amendments introduce specific provisions with regards to compliance obligations for engaging women employees in night shifts.
Comments and suggestions are invited from stakeholders, which may be addressed to: Secretary/Deputy Secretary, Department of Labour, Government of Chhattisgarh, Mahanadi Bhawan, Mantralaya, Nawa Raipur, Atal Nagar by 16th March 2025.
Key Highlights:
- Shops and establishments may engage women employees between 9:00 pm and 6:00 am provided written consent is obtained from such women employee;
- Minimum number of three (3) women employees are required to be assigned per night shift in view of safe working environment;
- Employers must provide secured transport to women employees from the workplace to their residence; the transport service must include police-verified drivers, vehicle detail maintenance, and coordination with local police stations;
- Employers must ensure separate sitting arrangements at regular intervals for employees required to stand continuously;
- Employers are required to keep a complaint box for women employees;
- Employers must display contact details of Local police stations, control rooms, and women’s helpline numbers at easily accessible locations within the workplace;
- Employers must establish a dedicated complaint redressal desk for women employees to address any safety concerns.
