State Disaster Management Authority, Chandigarh issues Guidelines/Clarification for containing the spread of COVID-19; violators will be punishable under Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Section 188 of IPC

The State Executive Committee of State Disaster Management Authority, Chandigarh by an Order dated 31st July, 2020 has issued orders / guidelines that will remain in force upto 31st August, 2020 in the entire Union Territory of Chandigarh.

The following directions are issued for containing the spread of COVID-19 in the city –

  1. Sukhna Lake will remain closed on weekends. Entry of all visitors will remain banned on Saturdays and Sundays.
  2. Odd-even system in certain specific congested markets will be re-introduced from time to time as per recommendations of the Committee.
  3. All markets will close by 8 PM, except for the eating establishments, which can remain open till 9 PM. However, the exemption to essential shops such as medicine shops etc. will continue.
  4. The curfew period from 10 PM to 5 AM will continue.

Any violation will be punishable under provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 apart from action under Section 188 of IPC and other legal provisions.
