State Pollution Control Board of Odisha increases pollution charges from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000 per unit for illegal dumping of solid waste (non-hazardous waste); aimed at discouraging illegal dumping of solid waste by industrial units

The State Pollution Control Board of Odisha (“SPCB”) has notified that pollution charges for illegal dumping of solid waste (Non-hazardous waste) has increased from Rs. 500/- per unit to Rs. 1000/- per unit.

Background:

Committee was constituted by the State Pollution Control Board for fixation of pollution charges. It was observed that the pollution charges (Rs. 500 per unit), decided earlier by the Committee in 2014, was inadequate. Therefore, the Committee has decided to levy the pollution charges per unit at Rs.1000/- henceforth to discourage illegal dumping of solid waste by industrial units.
