This is with reference to the update on revamping of the existing system of Food Licensing and Registration System (“FLRS”) which is an IT enabled system launched by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) to facilitate the Food Business Operators (“FBO”) to apply for licence / registration certificate online.
FSSAI has issued a letter pertaining to non-renewal of licence / registration certificate due to failure of FLRS. Due to technical glitches in the system, many FBOs have not been able to renew their licenses since the last quarter of December, 2017. The FBOs have either not been able to pay the fee online or upload requisite documents for renewal. As a result of that licenses of many FBOs have expired without any fault of their own.
Pursuant to this, FSSAI has decided that such FBOs, whose licenses have not been renewed during the said period for the reasons as stated above, will be allowed to continue their food businesses.
The FLRS is expected to function normally by 15th February, 2018. The same shall be communicated and those FBOs whose licenses have expired during this period will be provided time to renew their application.
Please see attached the copy of the letter issued by FSSAI.
