DGFT streamlines the Unique Quantity Codes (UQC’s) in DGFT’s EDI system and Customs’ ICEGATE

Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a Trade Notice No. 26/2020-2021 dated 14th September, 2020 in order to address the difficulties faced by members of trade and industry in complying with the standard Unique Quantity Codes (UQC’s) in their old Advance and Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) authorisations which have been issued with quantity units that do not match with the standard UQC’s being adopted or available till now.
Key Points of the Trade Notice are:
1. No new authorisations mentioning Non-standard units such as BoU, packs , boxes cartons and bottles etc would be issued by Regional Authorities (RAs)

2. In cases of already existing authorisations carrying any Non-standard units such as BoU, packs , boxes cartons and bottles etc., customs have been reported to allow exports against such authorisations till 30th day of October, 2020 by accepting exporter’s shipping bills in the UQC’s provided in ICEGATE. However, after 1st day of November , 2020 exports/imports without standard UQC’s will not be permitted.

3. The authorisation holders who has exported against any Non-standard units such as BoU, packs , boxes cartons and bottles etc are requested to approach concerned RA and get Non-standard units indicated in their authorisations in the import and export quantities, converted to standard quantity units and in case of difficulties faced by them they can get in touch with concerned Norms committee (NC) in Hqrs.
