FSSAI allows the import of food products for Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEM) Conditions till 30th June, 2021; importers required to submit necessary documents related to composition, label and claims for product

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has allowed the import of food products for Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEM) Conditions, till 30th June, 2021, subject to the following:

  • The importing firm to submit all necessary documents related to composition, label and claims for the product they intend to import. After examination, FSSAI would allow the import of such foods on a case to case basis. Future consignments may be imported basis one time permission.
  • The labels on food should clearly mention the medical conditions for which it has to be used.
  • The importer / manufacturer of such foods should ensure that they are consumed under supervision of health care officials.
