Bill introduced to amend the Maharashtra Shops and Establishment Act, 2017; proposes to include provision granting additional leave to female employees during menstrual period

With a view to amend the Maharashtra Shops and Establishment (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017, the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly has introduced the Maharashtra Shops and Establishment (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (“Bill”). The Bill proposes to include a provision under which every female employee working in an establishment will be entitled to additional paid leave during the period of menstruation.

The Bill has been introduced to create and efficient and effective system for women employees to get paid leave during menstrual period and to ensure that the health and well-being of female employees are not compromised due to lack of leaves.
